An accurate Odometer Disclosure must be recorded on the vehicle title at the time
of sale. If there is no space for an Odometer Disclosure, an Odometer
Disclosure Statement is required (available only at DMV). |

In a private-party vehicle transfer:
All states require a Valid Title completed by both the buyer and seller (accurate odometer reading included)
Most states require Proof of Insurance for buyers
Most states require a lien release for vehicles with outstanding loans
Some states require safety and/or emissions inspections
Some states require sellers to surrender old license plates to your DMV, unless being transferred to another vehicle
Some states require a Notice of Sale or a Notice of Transfer
Some states require that the bill of sale or title be notarized
